Analyze
Examine patterns, relationships, and uncertainty in provided information.
When to use it
Use this to examine patterns and uncertainty in data while separating observations from inference.
Useful inputs
- Data or observations
- Units and time period
- Decision or analysis question
Instruction
Separate observations from inferences. State evidence, limitations, and needed data; do not assume causation.
Example input
Data: January 120 visitors/12 sign-ups, February 160/16, March 200/15. Question: How did conversion change? Do not infer causes.
Example result
Observation: Sign-up rate was 10% in January and February, then 7.5% in March. Visits rose while conversion fell. Inference: March may have brought visitors who were less likely to sign up. Limit: These data alone do not explain the cause.
Common pitfall
Do not infer causation without checking changes in sample, period, or metric definition.
