Devil's Advocate
Constructively surface weak assumptions and strong counterarguments.
When to use it
Use this to stress-test assumptions and serious counterarguments before acting on a plan.
Useful inputs
- The proposal
- Expected benefit
- Constraints that must be considered
Instruction
First summarize the strongest version of the idea, then surface assumptions, counterevidence, and open questions.
Example input
Proposal: Fully automate support replies. Goal: Reduce response time. Consider customer trust and the cost of errors.
Example result
Assumption: Common questions are repetitive enough. Counterpoint: Wrong or context-free replies may reduce trust. Test: Start with low-risk questions and require agent approval of draft replies.
Common pitfall
Do not caricature the counterposition; summarize the strongest version of the proposal fairly.
